Seen that apple tree in your yard get more and more over grown? Ever wanted to bring new delicious fruit into the world? Come join us for a day of hands-on practice pruning fruit trees and grafting yourself a few apple trees. Learn about the pollination needs and growth habits of common fruit and nut trees and shrubs. And dream about designing your own food forest. All tools and two complete apple tree grafts are included in the class. Additional rootstock and scionwood can be purchased for $10 a set.
A one day gathering celebrating the arts of boozy herbal fermentation. Come join in a home brew swap and trade your bottle of brew or fermented food for another! Jump in a workshop led by local experts and learn about herbal mixed drinks, to make a new style of mead, or walk away with some sweet new vinegar making skills. Follow all that up with a delicious pot luck dinner followed by Caleb’s signature Mead Circle as seen at the Roots Rendezvous. Space for camping Saturday night will be provided, please bring all your camping and food needs!

A backpack designed to answer the question of can there be a functional, beautiful, compostable, waterproof backpack. This pack is a mix of Dublin leather, all natural waxed canvas, and metal hardware. It is constructed with a thick layer of felted wool to give the pack some structure and padding. It has an internal pocket that perfectly fits a few books and side pockets designed to fit a 1 liter water bottle.

Losing your way in the wilderness can be an inconvenience or a life-threatening problem. However, with some simple tools, knowledge, and skills, not only can you avoid getting lost but you can plan and execute off trail travel into amazing back country landscapes or navigate to a specific location when it really counts. Come learn the essentials Saturday and apply them in an off trail map and compass challenge on Sunday.
Come make the classiest of journals. In this workshop we will hand stitch Notebooks/Journals with waxed canvas covers. They are 100% compostable made with natural waxes, linen thread and art quality paper. Learn or practice sewing coptic, running, and whip stitches and go home with a new journal/notebook you won’t want to put down.

Let’s bottle some summer goodness! You’ve probably had a sip of something bowel turning and thought mead must be a beverage for someone else. Believe me, so have I. Let me show you how to make something actually delicious. Mead, possibly humanity’s oldest fermented beverage, is our tasty companion in this class. We will learn the ins and outs of mead brewing, from ingredients and equipment acquisition through fermentation, and bottling. We will discuss wild vs cultivated yeasts, try a number of different flavor profiles, take a look at ciders, maple wines and more! Open to students 21 and older.
